New piercing, new jewelry, or just checking your fit? Here’s a clear guide to the measurements that matter, so you can shop with confidence.

Thickness of the post. Most piercing jewelry is 16g (1.2mm) or 18g (1.0mm)
The distance from the front of the piece to the backing. 6mm is the most common length. 6mm and 8mm are included with every flat back purchase.
The size of the circular disc on the back of the labret. We offer 2.5mm and 4mm size bases.
| Placement | Gauge | Post Length |
|---|---|---|
| Lobe | 18g (1.0mm) | 6mm, 8mm |
| Helix | 16g (1.2mm) | 6mm, 8mm |
| Forward Helix | 18g (1.0mm) | 6mm, 8mm |
| Conch | 16g (1.2mm) | 8mm, 10mm |

Gauge measures the thickness of the wire that goes through your piercing. The smaller the number, the thicker the wire.
The space inside your hoop! Measure straight across the center, from one inside edge to the other, leaving out the wire itself. A smaller diameter gives you a closer hug; a larger one leaves a little more breathing room.
| Placement | Gauge | Internal diameter |

Your piercer is your sizing BFF. They can confirm your gauge and help you find the right post length or hoop diameter for your anatomy. When in doubt, ask!
Can’t make it to the studio? Start with jewelry you already know fits comfortably.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Gauge = post thickness. Check the sizing on your current jewelry’s original order or ask your piercer to confirm. A regular earring’s wiggle room won’t reliably tell you your gauge.
Length = wearable post space. For a flat back stud, measure the post between the backing and the decorative top in millimeters. Leave the backing and top out of your measurement!
The fit check: Comfy is the goal. If your jewelry pinches, presses into your skin, or has lots of extra room, let your piercer help you dial it in.
